Embedded roots

We joined forces with Via North Point and embarked on a revamp project for a newsstand that has served the North Point community for over twenty years. In order to reduce time needed for setting up and packing down each day, we worked with Coutou Woodworking Studio to design and create teak wood shelving with materials sourced from the local community. We further added multi-purpose joints for versatility and an aluminium outer layer for durability. The result is a reduction of stowing time from thirty minutes to only five and a unique designing solution to empower the local community.

Background: Together with the concerted efforts with the collaborators, Hong Kong Arts Centre design and engage the community with a series of participatory programmers and creative artistic structures to connect the new and the old areas in the district, building capacity on public space, celebrating the uniqueness of North Point and hence cultivating a sense of belonging and building the cultural citizenship through imaginations of urban spaces.
