Art means function meets green
What happens when art meets function meets green? A contemporary and elegant multifunctional space and office that brings together the key values of Hactl: sustainability and corporate heritage. We embarked on an ambitious project to refurbish the office of Hactl, Hong Kong's largest air cargo terminal, after 20 years in the building designed by Norman Foster. The former meeting space was transformed into a guest area resembling a contemporary art gallery with concrete grey as its primary colour and a large window wall providing a spectacular view of Hactl's iconic multi-floor storage system. Inside the gallery, we paid homage to Hactl's staff by drawing on iconic industry elements to create a number of handcrafted art and furniture pieces. Partnering with local woodworking studio Coutou and local industrial design studio Mr Hammers, we upcycled disused materials found in the terminal such as wooden pallets, restraint strap and unit load device, reflecting Hactl's commitment to sustainability and heritage. The former partitioned office was also transformed into a lively open-plan work space to facilitate staff interaction. We are proud to be part of Hactl's unique story and to share its legacy as a pioneer with both guests and staff.
