I know not what cafe

I know not what cafe is an experimental cafe created for deTour 2021 Design Festival in response to the theme of 'Use(fu)less'. These days we are so used to evaluating design based on functionality. To encourage the audience to rethink design, Edited and 430 collaborated on a cafe that deliberately challenges the usual norms and practices. As a cafe, experiment and performance, the audience participate in this work by buying and enjoying a coffee, just as they usually do in a normal cafe.

Constructed from materials that are commonplace but mostly overlooked, I know not what cafe offers a counterintuitive user experience via elements such as a doorway for an open space and a metal sculpture that doubles ambiguously as a table/chair. Normally in a cafe, coffee is the star of the show and design plays a supporting role. Here, roles are reversed and design is brought to the foreground with the goal of revealing how design shapes our experience and worldview.
